Michigan report calls for eviction right to counsel
A University of Michigan study that is part of the Michigan Eviction Project found that there is a 17% statewide eviction filing rate (1 out of every 6 rental housing units), which is quite high, and a correlation between race, number of children, and eviction rates. It also found that 83% of landlords are represented compared to less than 5% of tenants. The study calls for a statewide right to counsel for tenants.
