A09321: Same as SB 8724: Relates to enacting the “safe landings for youth leaving foster care act” or “safe landings act”, which provides protections for youth transitioning out of foster care who bring certain legal proceedings. If independent legal representation is not available to the youth, the court shall appoint counsel for a youth formerly in foster care who is seeking to enforce an order made on their behalf before their 21st birthday while they were still in foster care. Representation shall continue for all further proceedings thereon, including all motions and any related appeals. In some enforcement matters, court has jurisdiction over the contempt matter until the youth is 22 years old, but may retain jurisdiction for longer if good cause is shown, e.g., failure of youth to obtain stable housing.
