In June 2025, the Akron OH City Council unanimously voted to fund a 3-year tenant representation pilot program that will cover families at 100% of the poverty rate with minor children in the home, or seniors with disabilities at 100% of the poverty rate, and the eligible tenant must be at least 7 days away from their eviction hearing when they seek counsel.  In Akron in 2024, 88% of landlords had counsel, compared to only 3% of tenants.  The program will use $700,000 of ARPA funding and is expected to launch in September.  The program’s launch was covered by WYSU, Akron Beacon Journal, Signal Akron, and Hoodline Cleveland
