Legislation (dead): debt collection proceedings

06/21/2017 , Nebraska , Legislation , Consumer or Other Debt

LB 526 would have, among other things, required appointment of counsel for contempt proceedings related to debt collection.  It died in the Judiciary Committee after a hearing (it was indefinitely postponed on 5/23/17).  Portions of the bill (but not the right to counsel) went into LB 259, which did pass.

The NCCRC submitted testimony in support of the bill.
