MA Report discusses those turned away for legal aid, and benefits of counsel
A new report by the Boston Bar Association Task Force to Expand Civil Legal Aid states that as many as two-thirds of those eligible for legal aid in Massachusetts are turned away, due to insufficient resources. It also found that “for every additional dollar spent in civil legal aid to combat homelessness and domestic violence, the return to the state is two dollars, and for every additional dollar spent in civil legal aid to assist Massachusetts residents to recover federal benefits, the return is close to five dollars.” The Boston Globe covered the release of the report.
