WA State Bar: kids should have right to counsel in dependency proceedings

10/17/2015 , Washington , Bar Effort , Abuse/Neglect/Dependency - Children

The Washington State Bar association passed a resolution urging the state to provide a right to counsel for children in dependency (abuse/neglect) cases.  Current law in Washington State regarding counsel for children in dependency cases is complex, and advocates have been seeking such a right for a number of years.

The resolution follows the recommendation within the American Bar Association’s 2011 Model Act Governing the Representation of Children in Abuse, Neglect, and Dependency Proceedings.
