In February 2020, Reps. Clyburn (D-SC) and Price (D-NC) introduced HR 5884, otherwise known as the “Legal Assistance to Prevent Evictions Act of 2020”.  A companion bill, S. 3305, was filed by Sen. Bennet (D-CO).  The bills would direct federal funding to cities and states looking to expand eviction representation, and would prioritize jurisdictions that have implemented substantial landlord/tenant law reform or provided a right to counsel for tenants facing eviction.
