SB0427
SB0427: Not sure if relevant. Monitoring for now. Amending Chapter XIIA Jurisdiction, Procedure, and Disposition Involving Minors (Probate Code of 1939). Seems to tangentially impact provisions that we track but not the RTC directly. I believe the bill is related to quality of legal services provided by PD counsel appointed for kids in delinquency matters and other matters? [1] Excluding from the definition of “Indigent defense services” the “[s]ervices provided by a lawyer-guardian ad litem under section 17c(7) to (10) and section 17d of chapter XIIA of the probate code of 1939, 1939 PA 288, MCL 712A.17c and 712A.17d.”; [2] changing the term “juvenile” to “youth” and defining it as individuals 18 years of age or younger, as opposed to 17 years of age or younger. Note that: 712A.17c(7) [pertains to the right to a lawyer-guardian ad litem for children in dependency matters and the RTC for children in TPR [State] matters)
