Esteemed panel of judges and advocates explores RTC in various civil areas
A panel event at Boston College Law School in September 2024 took a look at the state of RTC in family law, housing, immigration, and juvenile jaw. The panel was moderated by NCCRC Steering Committee member Russell Engler of New England Law, and featured: Jefferson County Alabama Judge Shera Grant (who hears housing cases); Jennifer Klein, director of the immigration impact unit for the Committee for Public Counsel Services; Honorable Jay Blitzman ’74, former first justice in the Juvenile Court of Middlesex County; and Laura Gal, managing attorney of the family law unit at Greater Boston Legal Services. Judge Grant commented that “From seeing it in the courtroom in the civil arena, I’m a proponent of Civil Gideon”, while while Jennifer Klein spoke to “the stark discrepancy in case outcomes for people with and without representation in immigration cases.”
