In 2025, the New York legislature enacted SB 8917, a bill that seemed aimed at expanding the right to counsel for children under N.Y. Fam. Ct. Act. § 249(a) to parentage cases, as well as to matters related to violations of child support orders. However, the governor vetoed the bill.
