Tenant Right to Counsel: Supporting Housing Stability Among Families with Young Children
Date: November 18, 2026
Time: 3-4pm ET
This year, the National Coalition for a Civil Right to Counsel, a project of the Public Justice Center, began working with the Thrive from the Start Initiative (TFTS), which aims to identify and develop housing supports for prenatal to age 3 (PN-3) families nationally as well as within 10 specific TFTS grantee states. Relatedly, the Prenatal-to-3 Policy Impact Center at Vanderbilt Peabody College released a policy brief stating that the data shows tenant right to counsel (TRTC) is a “promising policy to improve child and family outcomes” and highlighting the disproportionate eviction rates of families with children and DV victims as well as the poor outcomes for unrepresented tenants.
The NCCRC will host a conversation about how TRTC laws can support and have supported housing stability for families with young children. You’ll learn more about the intent, justification, and design of TRTC laws focused on families with children, including in Cleveland, OH and Bozeman, MT, specifically, and their impact on health.
