In 2010, the ABA released a Model Access Act and Basic Principles of a Right to Counsel in Civil Legal Proceedings. These documents provide guidance to states considering the adoption of new civil rights to counsel by suggesting different implementation structures and best practices. The documents were endorsed by a dozen different state and local bar associations, as well as other organizations.

The NCCRC provided substantive input in the drafting of these docs.
