California report flags eviction numbers/speed, calls for right to counsel
A statewide report on eviction rates by Tenants Together (the same group that successfully pushed for a right to counsel in San Francisco eviction cases) found that nearly 1.5 million individuals in California faced eviction from 2014-2016, and that 60% of the evictions took less than 30 days to complete. The report notes the growing right to counsel movement as well as the Shriver Civil Counsel Act pilots in California, and calls for a statewide eviction right to counsel.
