In 2026, the Indiana legislature introduced, HB 1181, which would have created an access to counsel in eviction task force to review the eviction process and potential funding to increase tenant’s access to counsel. Task force bills can sometimes be an important step towards a right to counsel. Unfortunately, the bill died in Committee.
