Forfeiture right to counsel bill dies in Chamber

In 2026, the Nebraska legislature introduced HB 1801, which would have provided a right to appointed counsel for certain individuals in forfeiture matters. Specifically, if a criminal defendant is represented by appointed counsel, the bill provided, the attorney shall also represent them in the related forfeiture proceeding.

Unfortunately, the bill died in Chamber.
