HB535

04/26/2024 , New Hampshire , Legislation , Abuse/Neglect/Dependency - Children

HB535: Began as a bill that would have simply (i) expanded the permissive appointment of counsel for children in abuse matters by broadening the definition of a “conflict of interest” btw a child and their GAL that triggers the permissive appointment of counsel.

Amended bill removes language about conflict of interest entirely, providing simply that the court may appoint counsel for a child to represent the child’s expressed wishes in proceedings under the chapter. Would require appointment of counsel for children who are placed in a group home or child care institution.
