Illinois legislation creates 5-year civil right to counsel pilots project
The “Access to Justice Act”, enacted in 2013, creates a set of statewide pilot projects for the provision of counsel in civil cases, and will last for 5 years. The pilots are funded by a new court fee, and are expected to have about $4 million for operation. The pilot planners anticipate focusing on providing counsel in housing cases.
