SB463

07/30/2024 , New Hampshire , Legislation , Abuse/Neglect/Dependency - Children

SB463: Currently, the discretionary appointment of counsel for kids in abuse matters is limited to situations where there is a conflict between the child’s wishes and their guardian ad litem’s recommendation; the bill would remove the conflict requirement. Also, it would require the appointment of client-directed counsel for children placed in certain institutions. Amendment 2024-1466s, introduced by Senate Finance on 4/9/24, would create five new staff attorney II positions and fourteen child protective service worker (CPSW) IV positions. However, the bill is subject to attorney availability after diligent efforts are made.
