Springfield MO weighing tenant RTC ordinance
Back in March 2025, advocates in Springfield MO introduced a tenant RTC ordinance to the City Council, which referred it to the Community Involvement Committee. If Springfield were to enact such an ordinance, it would become the third city in Missouri to do so, joining Kansas City and St. Louis. The proposed law would impose penalties against landlords who retaliate against tenants who utilize their right to counsel. In referring the ordinance, the Council “asked the committee to consider whether to include a ‘means-tested qualification’ for who is covered by the program, how much the program would cost and how it would be funded, coordination with Greene County Circuit Court to establish an eviction court program, and to address questions from city staff.”
