U.S. House Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-MA) and 14 cosponsors have introduced a resolution to provide a right to counsel in civil cases. The resolution calls for the federal government to share the obligation with state and local governments. Check out the press release and coverage in Salon, and Rep. Kennedy was interviewed about the resolution on Talk of the Commonwealth. And an opinion piece run on WBSM argues that a right to counsel in civil cases is a human right.
The NCCRC gave input on the resolution language.
