New tool predicts expected # of eviction filings due to COVID-19

07/17/2020, Report, Housing - Evictions

There is a new eviction estimator tool developed by Stout (the company that has conducted the cost/benefit analyses of right to counsel in NYC, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles), with input from the NCRC. The tool provides both national and 50-state data on a) how many tenants have fallen behind on rent and therefore are at risk of eviction; and b) how many eviction filings this may translate to in the next 4 months. The tool also displays housing instability both nationally and for each of the 50 states based on both income and race.  The tool is based on weekly data, and such data will be refreshed weekly, meaning the totals will continually update.  Check out the NCCRC's press release, or a presentation on the tool by NCCRC Coordinator John Pollock.
